In this section, I set to divide rumors from truth as I investigate the infamous relationships in the series. Now I'm not talking about couples that have gotten together (such as Spike and Julia, Jet and Alisa, and Faye and Whitney), but rather ones that need speculation, or otherwise it would be rather obvious. And yes, this does include same-sex relations.

[Spike and Faye]

How they met: Session #3 : Honky Tony Woman; at a casino in space, Spike joins the black Jack table at which Faye is the dealer. We learn that she was told of someone who looked similar to Spike, and he would lose all but one chip, that one chip being Faye's freedom to debt-free.

Relationship: Being the ideal couple of the Cowboy Bebop series, some may say that these two are pretty close. From the moment they laid eyes on each other, it was apparent that did, in fact, have some feelings for one another. In the beginning, was there not something that kept Faye returning to the Bebop? This is also proven later in the series when Faye is extremely disappointed in the tense moments as Spike tells her that he needs to fight Vicious. It is crystal clear from this point, if you had not seen it earlier, that they cared too much for each other to let the other die. However, there is one thing that stands in their path, perhaps forbidding Spike to open his heart to Faye, and that is Julia.

[Jet and Faye]

How they met: Session #3 : Honky Tonk Women; when Faye loses her poker chip that would otherwise have gotten rid of her debt, she feels as if there is nothing left in her future except to go on the run. As she is escaping in her zip craft, Jet appears on the roof and then takes her in for questioning on the Bebop.

Relationship: You know both of these characters very well, but would you even consider putting them together? I believe that there are instances throughout the series that this very well may be the case. A good example of this is the time when Faye shows concern for Jet's robotic arm. She recommends that it should be fixed with the modern technology now, and the emotional sense is on edge. Although Jet is single, he finds Faye to be very annoying at times, and that would be sure to ruin much if not all of the relationship.

Probability of getting together: 41%

[Gren and Faye]

How they met: Session #12 : Jupiter Jazz (Part 1); on Callisto, Faye is treating herself to a number of drinks. This planet is very cold, and she sneezes with her small clothes. Gren hears her sneeze and says take care, explaining that if he hadn't, she would have turned into a fairy.

Relationship: If anyone to come close to taking Faye's hand, it would most certainly be Gren. I believe that the producers created a purposeful romantic atmosphere every time they were together. During those times, Gren acted as a calming force to Faye, at which they just seemed right for each other. However, due to Gren's female hormones, some may think it ridiculous to pair him with another female, but the implied feelings he had towards Faye would probably break through that barrier.

Probability of getting together: 81%

[Faye and Julia]

How they meet: Session #25 : The Real Folk Blues (Part 1); by coincidence, Faye happens to spot Julia on the run from members of the syndicate. Deciding to help out, she blows out the syndicate's tires, and then jumps in with Julia as more of the same cars enter the chase. When they get a chance to take a break, the two start talking.

Relationship: Homophobia? Many fans of the series don't find the idea of Faye and Julia as a couple all that disgusting, actually. As an open-minded person, I believe that they had an intimate time together during their discussion. Another aspect contributing to this predicament is that they seem to have many things in common, such as their beautiful dangerous sense, and their wild nature deep inside. Sure, we know that they are attracted to guys, but no one ever said that they weren't attracted to other women as well.

Probability of getting together: 53%

[Jet and Meifa]

How they meet: Session #21 : Boogie-Woogie Feng-Shui; Jet decides that he might as well figure out why his old friend, Pao, would send him a message out of the blue after so long. His search leads him to a grave, where he meets Pao's daughter, Meifa.

Relationship: I believe that it is very apparent that Jet has a crush on this girl from the start, though he is older than Meifa by a few years. He seems to stumble across sentences when he talks to her, and even happens to mention that he is young enough to be her 'boyfriend,' but then corrects himself to say 'brother.' The producers, as well, try to encourage the idea of the two getting together, such as when Ed goes up to Meifa and asks her is she is Jet's girlfriend. Meifa's feelings are kept secret, however, and it's hard to know how she really feels. The only possible thing that would stand in their way is Jet's old friendship with Meifa's father, whom she has always hated.

Probability of getting together: 84%

[Vicious and Julia]

How they meet: Before Cowboy Bebop; these two apparently meet before the series began, so any hearsay is merely speculation. I believe that they met through Spike, as him and Vicious were close comrades in the syndicate back in the day.

Relationship: There are indeed rumors that Vicious and Julia were lovers at one time. These rumors have been backed up with close observation of flashbacks, noting someone that looked oddly familiar to Vicious, in bed with Julia. Since this time, however, Vicious has taken it upon himself to use Julia as bait to get what he wants out of Spike - mainly blackmailing her that either she kills Spike, or they both die. Because of this alone, I don't think the relationship would turn out very well, putting to rest any speculation of them as a couple.

Probability of getting together: 23%

[Andy and Faye]

How they meet: Session #22 : Cowboy Funk; for Faye, it's love at first site, seeing Andy on his horse with his cowboy getup. As Andy mistakenly goes after Spike for the crime of the teddy bear bombings, Faye jumps right on his steed, and rides with him all the way back to his place.

Relationship: By the time the couple gets to Andy's place, Faye realizes her mistake. Contrary to her belief that he was good looking, he acted like a total snob at home, and had no apparent fashion sense. As the tables turn to where Andy starts hitting on Faye, she concludes that he is merely a rich guy trying to live in a normal society. Faye politely takes home numerous cans of his homemade soup (that happens to taste awful), and then pretty much puts him out of her life. Once again, this is a couple that contradicted previous belief that they would turn out to have a good relationship.
